Agathian shelter Tutor Project

The targeted community is children and teenagers of age group 4-18 who do not get to experience the normality of a childhood that exists under a roof with constant parental presence. The children's parents are associated with alcoholism, drug addiction, rehabilitation programs or being in prison. Some of the children are known to be orphans.

Children from such backgrounds may deal with difficulties in establishing intimate bonds or generally face loneliness, feel a sense of abandonment and lack sufficient interactions with adults who can help in their overall growth and development.

Volunteering to spend time with them once a week for two hours and establishing a close-knit bond through our tutoring ways with the children is our main priority.

Feedbacks from the volunteers:

"I have learnt that we must be more thankful for the things that we take for granted in life such as education."

"After joining the Agathians volunteering sessions, I’ve learnt that I can make a difference in the lives of others as long as I am willing to start somewhere. Even a small contribution can go a long way in giving a hand to those who need us. As a person, the sessions are also helping me turn into a better person who is more aware of social issues that need our attention. Moreover, I realised that we can learn so much from those we help."
