Locks of Hope is the first organisation to provide a platform for Malaysians to donate hair to be turned into wigs for cancer chemotherapy patients. As a wig may cost around RM 800, it can be a burden for cancer patients to afford a wig, especially when costs of cancer treatments are already high.

Locks of Hope 2017

On the actual event day (29/8/17), the event was divided into two parts, with one part being held in the atrium while the other was on forth floor. In atrium, four booths were set up.

In the information booth, stories of several cancer survivors were posted to raise awareness among the public. In hand painting / wishes writing booth, a white cloth was prepared to be painted with wishes, signatures or hand prints as mental support to those cancer patients. Whilst in food selling booth, 20 boxes of donuts were sold off within a few hours. Lastly, a decorated partition and some props were used for photo booth.

In the other part of this event, the hair donation drive was held on forth floor. 9 professionals hairdressers attended this event and provided hair cut with simple trim to participants. In total, 48 students had their hair cut and donated on-the-spot and 36 students brought their ponytails to donate. Certificates and hair saloon vouchers were given to those who had their haircut on-the-spot.

We sincerely appreciate everyone who had contributed to make this event successful, be it organizing committees, volunteers who helped out at booths or kind-hearted souls who had donated their hair!
