Giving Vision (GV) is a project involving transcription and recording. The books that the volunteers have completed typing will be sent to MAB and converted into braille for the blinds to read. The feedback that we got back from the volunteers are they think that it is a meaningful project as a simple work of typing the book into Microsoft Word can help to convert it into braille. At the same time, typing of the book can help to improve their grammar and knowledge

Project Objectives:
  • To improve the literacy skills of our visually impaired friends through reading materials and audio recording.
  • Bridging the gap between the blind and the sighted.
  • To raise pubic awareness and improve the recognition of blindness inside and outside of IMU.

Recent Activities

In order to enhance participants' understanding towards this activity,  the first "Understanding The Blind Community Better" workshop had been held on 18 August 2017. The workshop had ignited the volunteers' interest to contribute to the blind community.

A few volunteering sessions had been held. The volunteers were able to interact with the blind people, do shopping to them, help them to fold papers and serve refreshments. Volunteers even had the chance to attend wedding event with them.

Based on one of the volunteers, this activity is an eye-opening experience. She has learnt a lot from the volunteering sessions and begun to look at things that she has never noticed of in her entire life.
